Search and Find Good Condition Mahogany Wood: Select a piece of mahogany wood that is free from cracks or splits. The wood should be in good condition. |

Take Heartwood and Cut into planks : Use the heartwood (the dense inner part of the tree trunk) as it is more durable and resistant to decay. Cut it into a block of desired width and thickness for a single block cutting board. |

Season or Dry: Allow the wood to dry out naturally in a well-ventilated area. This process, known as seasoning, helps to reduce the moisture content in the wood. |

Cut to Exact Dimension: Once the wood is dry, cut it to the desired dimensions of Length x Breadth x Thickness. |

Add Juice Grooves, Smooth Surface, Round Corners: Carve out a groove around the edge of the board to catch any juices from food. Then, use sandpaper to smooth the surface of the board and round off the corners for safety. |

Apply Food Grade Oil: Finally, apply a coat of food-grade oil to the cutting board. This not only enhances the natural color of the mahogany wood but also creates a barrier. It’s important to use food-grade oil because it’s safe for contact with food. |

I stopped using my old plastic and bamboo cutting boards and switched to a wooden one.
It’s much better! I was worried about cleanliness and how long the old ones would last.
Plastic can hold bacteria, small microplastic piece chips into food and bamboo can change shape and break, also glued. But wood, especially the end-grain type, naturally fights off bacteria and is very strong. Also, wood is easier on my knives.
